To treat a cavity, your dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then “fill” the area on the tooth where the decay was. Fillings are also used to repair cracked, broken or injured teeth and teeth that have been worn down from nail-biting, tooth grinding or other misuse.
Teeth can be filled with white porcelain, silver amalgam or a white glass material called composite resin fillings. Your dentist’s recommendation helps determine the type of filling that will best address your needs. General considerations include the extent and location of the decay, the cost of the filling material, and your insurance coverage.
To maintain your fillings you should follow good oral hygiene practices and visit your dentist regularly for cleanings. Additionally, make sure to brush with a toothpaste containing fluoride, and floss at least once daily.
If your dentist suspects that a filling might be cracked, he or she will take x-rays to assess the situation. If your tooth is extremely sensitive, you feel a sharp edge, you notice a crack in the filling, or a piece of the filling is missing, call your dentist for an appointment.
At Doerner Dental, we offer several options of affordably priced fillings. Our quality fillings help you prevent more serious dental health issues and painful dental emergencies down the road.
I have been to several other dentists. 2 of the 3 wanted to sell me all new fillings (9) due to minor air pockets. Dr. Doerner was the only honest one. I only needed 1 and he took the time to educate me on the issue. The staff and hygienist could not have been nicer and more professional.
Went in for a cleaning and was impressed by the visit. New patient so they did x-rays and the results pop up on the screen in front of you, then they have a camera for showing you areas to work on and where they are cleaning, etc. Really informative much past just "floss more" that many dentist say they show you why. Took about 10 mins to fill out the paperwork and was brought right back with an on schedule appt, which is nice. TV on while the cleaning was happening so a nice ambient background instead of just hearing dental equipment. Friendly and pleasant staff as well as Dr. Doerner. Happy to find a local dentist that will make coming back for a cleaning a good experience instead of something that you find excuses to put off. Already scheduled next cleaning. Highly recommended.
I love the fact that Dr. Doerner can literally take care of all of my dental needs. From creating a bite plane for TMJ to cosmetics to regular work such as crown and fillings. Staff is wonderful, and I have had the same staff take care of me for years. I highly recommend this dentist.
Our first experience with Dr. Doerner and his staff could not have been better. We filled out the forms that are usual with first visits and then were taken in to one of the offices for our appointment. We were then treated in a professional manner by the staff and Dr. Doerner.
