Mouth Rinses in Clearwater, FL

Using a mouth rinse each day can improve your oral health. There’s nothing quite like using a mouth rinse in the morning after brushing your teeth. It can help wake you and your mouth up as it freshens your breath and washes away bacteria.

Some mouth rinses are available by prescription only and are used in combatting gingivitis and periodontal disease. However, there are a variety of flavored and unflavored mouth rinses available over the counter as well. The two primary types of mouth rinses are for therapeutic and cosmetic use. The therapeutic formulas will reduce the risk of tooth decay, gingivitis, bad breath, and help control plaque. If you opt for a fluoride mouthwash, limited use is recommended. Refer to the label for directions.

Always opt for an alcohol-free mouth rinse. The alcohol in mouthwash is commonly called ethanol and is responsible for the burning sensation when it first hits your tongue. Along with this sensation, the mouth rinses containing alcohol can cause other irritation to the mouth too. With the multiple options of alcohol-free choices, steer clear of the ones containing alcohol because the alcohol does work in killing bacteria, however, it kills the good and bad bacteria in the mouth.

Along with brushing twice a day and flossing once daily, rinsing with a therapeutic mouth rinse will help whisk away decay-causing bacteria from your mouth. This extra step is simple yet helps tremendously in reducing gum disease and inflammation.

While mouth rinse should never be used as a replacement to good oral hygiene habits, it is a useful preventative ally. When bacteria have the opportunity to build up along the gumlines and between teeth, it cultivates rapidly, and mouth rinse can be used throughout the day in-between brushing to freshen your breath and fight bacteria.

Doing everything possible in caring for your teeth at home is certainly necessary, however, seeing your dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings is important too. If you aren’t certain which mouthwash is the best choice for your oral health needs consult your dentist. Schedule a dental exam today and ask your dentist which mouth rinse is best for you.
